Mindful.org is part of the Foundation for a Mindful Society—an independent not for profit corporation. The magazine is published by James Gimian, who is also the publisher of the Shambhala Sun and Buddhadharma: The Practitioner’s Quarterly. Their offices are in Halifax, where they share space although they are distinct entities.

Gimian has been a magazine and trade book publishing professional since 1973. He was one of the principal leaders of Chogyam Trungpa’s Dorje Kasung from 1977 to 1997.

He has spearheaded Mindful’s community-building efforts within the mindfulness movement for the past five years, and is currently on the Advisory Board of the Center for Mindfulness at UMass, and the Boards of Directors of the Mind Fitness Training Institute (MFTI) and the Institute for Mindful Leadership. He has taught leadership training programs and mindfulness in North America and Europe since 1978, based on The Art of War. Gimian is codirector of the Denma Translation Group, which produced a critically acclaimed translation of The Art of War. He is also co-author of The Rules of Victory: How to Transform Chaos and Conflict–Strategies from the Art of War (2008).
