Wow, I can't believe it has been six months since my last blog post. 2023 is done and dusted, with more than $6000 going to Buddhist centres or charities, including the Mississippi-Madawaska Land Trust and the Ottawa Food Bank, in addition to author royalties.
Titles on tap for 2024 include:
- Kalyanamitra, volume II, dealing with praxis for Buddhist chaplains in a variety of settings, by Monica Sanford
- Buddhist Chaplaincy for Colleges and Universities, edited by JiHyang Padma, Sumi Loundon Kim, and John Makransky
- Un sentier interieur, a pocket introduction to Buddhism for inmates in the Québec prison system, by Acharya Samaneti, a Buddhist chaplain who has worked in Montréal federal prisons for more than 12 years
- Queering Buddhist Studies, a scholarly critique of where we're at and what should come next, by Kody Muncaster
- Deepening Zen: The Long Maturation, book II, by Mitra Bishop Roshi
- The Chyssem Project, a pictorial history of the first Tibetans in Canada, in their own words
The Rural Buddhist Center Environmental Action Plan project has started up again. So far I've contacted five Buddhist Centers together holding more than 2000 acres of wild land. My goal is to profile each of them for Buddhistdoor Global, with more to follow moving from the Eastern Seaboard to the West Coast.
That's it for now. Best wishes, JN
