Tibet: The story of a tragedy

Buddhism in Canada Movies

This documentary movie, just under an hour in length, was produced in France in 1995. It comprises archival footage dating as far back as 1938, with a excellent explanatory voice-over in English. Like many films about Tibet, it concentrates on the political story – and does that very well, in spite of occasional over-the-top attempts to fit Tibetan society into western “Shangri-la” stereotypes. The story of Tibet is indeed a tragedy. We only hope that the seeds of dharma cast on the wind have grown into beautiful gardens around the world. We hope too that those flowers will bloom once again in Tibet and China.
