On October 6, 2013, SGI Canada, Vancouver we will hold a commemorative event to celebrate our achievements by looking at our past, present and future.
“Victory: An SGI Canada Celebration of Peace, Culture and Education”
This year will be the 23rd anniversary of the opening of the SGI Canada Culture Centre in Vancouver. It is also the 20th anniversary of SGI President, Daisaku Ikeda’s visit to Vancouver, a significant historical event for our Buddhist community.
The October 6 event, featuring video, live performances, and speakers is intended to inspire each person to develop their potential, and to build peace from the inside, peace that ripples outwards into our neighborhoods and broader communities.
We are pleased to confirm that Sukhvinder Kaur Vinning, the Executive Director of The World Sikh Organization of Canada (WSO) will be speaking at our October 6 event. She is the former Vice President of the Multifaith Action Society (MAS), an interfaith organization committed to interfaith dialogue and multifaith collaboration on socially responsible and relevant initiatives for the common good of all. WSO is a non-profit organization with a mandate to promote and protect the interests of Canadian Sikhs, as well as to promote and advocate for the protection of human rights for all individuals, irrespective of race, religion, gender, ethnicity, and social and economic status.
Prior to the event on October 6, doors will open at 1:00 pm, and SGI will also host the exhibit, “Seeds of Hope: Visions of Sustainability, Steps Toward Change,” in the lobby of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. The exhibit, exploring themes of sustainability and examples of community engagement for change, was hosted by SGI Canada Vancouver in 2012 at venues in Richmond, and Surrey, BC.
The members of SGI Canada, Vancouver are committed to peace, sustainable development and human rights, both on an international level, and in our community. You may learn more about our organization by visiting www.sgicanada.org
