Introduction to Buddhist Counselling (on-line)

13 Saturdays, September 18 – December 11, 2021, EST 4-6 pm (7 classes) & 4-5 pm (6 tutorials) - 20 hours
This module is designed to provide basic Buddhist counselling skills to individuals with little or no clinical experience or training. It is intended to prepare participants to volunteer with Sangha members, friends, and family. No previous training is required.
Students will learn the following skills: attending, rapport building, use of silence, paraphrasing, reflecting, showing empathy, focusing the conversation, clarifying, appropriate questioning, and summarizing. They will also learn to integrate Buddhist concepts into their supportive counselling conversations and will be encouraged to practice these skills in their interactions with others.

Buddhist Volunteer Grief Counselling Course (on-line)
Instructed by Ven. Sister Thich nu Tinh Quang, Resident Teacher of Little Heron Zen Hermitage; Sister received training in Gestalt Therapy / worked as a psychotherapist prior to ordination
10 Fridays January 14 to March 18, 2022, EST 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm pm - 20 hours
The primary goal of The Buddhist Volunteer Grief Counselling Certificate Course is that students gain the knowledge and skills to provide effective grief counselling and support for Buddhist practitioners or others interested in this approach, using a biopsychosocial and Buddhist approach to grief. During these 20 hours of grief support training, students advance their counselling skills. This may include incorporating writing and art in their approach, in order to guide clients through their grief.
