Enlightenment has to start somewhere; it starts with the natural tendency to move toward happiness and away from suffering.
– Dungse Jampal Norbu
Dungse Jampal Norbu Namgyel was born into a dharma family in 1988, as the son of Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche and Elizabeth Mattis-Namgyel. Throughout his life Dungse Jampal traveled extensively in Asia, but spent much of his young life in Crestone, Colorado. If you were to ask him when he started to study the Buddhist path, he would say, “Since I was born.” Under his father’s wing he has received many teachings and transmissions, sometimes while walking in the mountains of Crestone. When he was still an infant, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche instructed Kongtrul Rinpoche to train Dungse Jampal to uphold Kongtrul Rinpoche’s lineage in the West. Dungse Jampal recently completed a five-year course of study at Guna Institute in Bir, India to fulfill this vision. Jampal’s anecdotal style and first-hand curiosity about how Buddhism relates to actual experience imbue his teaching with a fresh perspective, and reveal a natural wisdom and humor.
