“Is there a Buddhist wedding officiant?” That’s the question I received recently from my old, dear friend Darshan Chaudhary, one of the founders of the Ambedkar Mission in Toronto. He was calling on behalf of the son of another friend, and explained that both ministers at the Toronto Jodo Shinshu Buddhist Temple had previous commitments on the date of the event. I was pretty much stumped.
So here are the questions:
Do you preside at Buddhist weddings?
Traditional and/or same sex?
Do you know a Buddhist teacher who does, and is recognized by the government as an officiant?
