Sumeru is pleased to announce the upcoming publication of   GEMS AN INTRODUCTION TO CANADIAN BUDDHISM FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AND THE YOUNG AT HEART   The author is Ken Tanaka. Several years ago he wrote a similar book for the US market, which was published by BDK America, the U.S. branch of Bukkyo Dendo Kyokai, the Society for the Promotion of Buddhism, an international organization with headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. Late last year he approached me about doing a Canadian version and sent me the manuscript. The original obviously needed all the US references stripped out and Canadian ones put in....

Yesterday, we had the opportunity of attending a dinner (organized by Sumeru) with community leaders from a variety of Ottawa sanghas. Our evening was hosted by Paul and Cathy Keddy at their home (in a square mile of forest and wetlands they have donated to the Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust to remain wild in perpetuity). The Cultural Corps of Korean Buddhism and the Korean Cultural Center Canada will hold a special event to introduce Korean traditional culture and healthy food at the Canadian Museum of History from September 12 through 14, 2018. This is a celebration of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Canada and Korea, which was hosted by the Korea Cultural Center Canada following the last year. On September 12, a dinner party featuring various temple food will take place, where government officials, politicians, media people, and famous chefs are expected to attend. PEI approves 120-hectare Buddhist monastery for nuns

From Buddhistdoor... The provincial government of Prince Edward Island (PEI) in Canada has approved plans for the construction of a 120-hectare monastery in PEI municapilty of Brudenell. The monastery complex, which will be able to house up to 1,400 nuns, is a project of the Great Wisdom Buddhist Institute (GWBI), led by Master Zhen-Ru and focused on nurturing the study and practice of Buddhist nuns.
