Pure Land Buddhist traditions have been some of the largest and most influential in Buddhist history, and remain so to the present day. This conference will bring together scholars from around the world to present in 16 panels which cover an expansive range of Pure Land topics, in terms of its long history, global reach, and diverse regional and trans-regional expressions.
This year’s keynote speakers will be Dr. Georgios Halkias (Oxford University) and Dr. Masahiro Shimoda (The University of Tokyo). Their lectures, taking place on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1 respectively, will be open to the public.
Registration for the conference includes full access to all panel presentations and special events as well as all meals for the duration of the weekend (breakfast included for those staying with conference accommodation).
This is the 3rd Annual Conference of the Buddhism and Contemporary Society Program (University of British Columbia, funded by The Tung Lin Kok Yuen Canada Foundation), and the 16th Biennial Conference of the International Association of Shin Buddhist Studies (hosted by the IASBS North American District).
