The Conference on Applied Buddhism: Past and Present will focus on the exploration of two current streams of Applied Buddhism, one in Buddhist countries that have responded to changes, challenges, and needs that have arisen in their homelands and abroad, and the other in traditionally non-Buddhist countries that have explored contemporary Buddhist applications to address current issues or to meet various social needs. Examples of the former stream include evolving movements of Engaged Buddhism in Asia, while the latter stream involves application of Buddhist thought and practice beyond Asia. Both streams are applying Buddhist principles in fresh ways to address issues of war and peace, ecology, justice, interreligious dialogues, and to empower work in education, healthcare, social work, psychology and psychotherapy, hospice, chaplaincy, prison work, etc.

We hope that this conference will be a forum for the exchange of ideas and practices among academics, researchers, professionals, community leaders, and graduate students interested in the study, and involved in the application, of Applied Buddhism in both of these streams. For more information on the specific requirements and topics for submitting papers, please click on “Call for Papers”.
